April 2023 - Northeast Lakeview College (NLC) Appointed to be the Lead College for Central Texas Technology Center (CTTC) in New Braunfels

Northeast Lakeview College is proud to announce that it has been appointed as the lead college for the Central Texas Technology Center (CTTC) located at 2189 FM758, New Braunfels, TX 78130. Northeast Lakeview College is one of the five Alamo Colleges.  Located in northeast Bexar County, one of the fastest growing areas in the state, it currently serves northeast San Antonio and residents from Comal and Guadalupe Counties, with about 37% of its students coming from these counties outside of Bexar. The official transition is expected August 1, 2023

November 2022 - NLC broke ground on its new stand-alone Veterans Center facility in November.

NLC broke ground on its new stand-alone Veterans Center facility in November.  The building is being constructed by the 87th Texas Legislature. With the appropriation of $7.7 million from the State of Texas 2022-2023 biennium to the Alamo Colleges District; the facility will be dedicated to supporting the College’s growing active and retired military and dependent student population.

Expected to be open in Fall 2024, the new Veterans Center will provide a one-stop location for military-connected students and their families to receive academic and non-academic services such as:

  • Increasing Veterans specific orientations
  • Enhancing career planning, training, job search assistance, and other transitional services
  • Re-establishing a Veterans mentoring program that matches incoming Veterans with current students to support the transition process from military life to academia, among other services.

August 2022 - Northeast Lakeview College Dedicates its Newest Building, Paluxy Hall

Northeast Lakeview College officially opened its newest and 10th facility with a Ribbon Cutting & Dedication Ceremony on August 17. At  86,390 sq. ft, Paluxy Hall expands learning and classroom space for science and engineering courses, provides study spaces, academic support, and a 3rd-floor multipurpose room with the ability to host large events. The facility also provides space so that NLC can expand its career and technical programs.

October 2021 - NLC dedicates USDA grant funded garden

Northeast Lakeview College officially dedicates a $10, 500 USDA Grant-funded garden project that will provide fully sustainable produce to the college’s food pantry and the local community. NLC received a $10,500 grant from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) to construct a garden on its campus to grow sustainable produce to benefit the college’s food pantry and the community.  An official dedication ceremony was held today October 25. At the ceremony, NLC officially unveiled the name of the garden as the Giving Garden, and a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony took place as the garden becomes fully operational. The high-tunnel and garden are expected to yield over 600 pounds of produce annually that will directly benefit the NLC Nighthawks Nest student food pantry and provide donations to underserved community food distribution sites and farmer’s markets.

July 2021 - Northeast Lakeview College hosted a Beam Signing and Topping Out Ceremony

Northeast Lakeview College hosted a Beam Signing and Topping Out Ceremony on July 21.  Employees, community members, and special guests of the College had the opportunity to leave their signature on a beam that will be used on the new Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) building.  Followed by a Topping Out Ceremony, one of the last and highest beams was placed during this important construction tradition. The 86,390 sq. ft facility will be the college’s 10th building and be home to classrooms and labs for physics, chemistry, etc. study spaces, academic support, and a 3rd-floor multipurpose room with the ability to host large events. Construction on the building is expected to be completed in August 2022 and begin offering classes in Fall 2022.

July 2021 NLC Receives $7.7 Million to Construct Veterans Center

Receiving continued investments from the 87th Texas Legislature, Northeast Lakeview College (NLC) will be the next site for a new Veterans Center within the Alamo Colleges District (ACD). Awarded $7.7 million for a new Veterans Center, the funds are part of the State of Texas appropriations provided to the Alamo Colleges for the 2022-2023 biennium. Funds will be used to construct a stand-alone building dedicated to providing services to active and retired military and their families will provide a “one-stop” location offering a convenient central place for them to have direct access to academic and non-academic services

March 2021 Northeast Lakeview College (NLC) gains Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Designation

Northeast Lakeview College (NLC) gains Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Designation. To earn this designation, institutions of higher education should have a student body of 25% or more Hispanics & high percentage of students must be qualified for federal student loans or grants. HSI provides several added benefits, including recruiting and funding purposes. NLC can now apply for grants using HSI designation which opens the possibility for more funding opportunities.  As an added benefit, HSI institutions wave the 25% for matching Federal Work-Study payments. NLC began working towards HSI designation after receiving its accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

December 2018 - Northeast Lakeview College Expands Academic Offerings

Northeast Lakeview College expanded its educational offerings to include two associate of applied science degrees (A.A.S.) in Information Technology -Cybersecurity and Information Technology - Network Administrator. Included in these programs, students can earn an associate of applied science degree, various certificates, and occupational skills award.

October 2018 - Northeast Lakeview College Now Provides Enhanced Advocacy Services

NLC also increased support of advocacy programs by opening the Nighthawks Nest that includes services for students such as a food pantry, budget counseling, and financial support information. Nighthawk’s Nest Food Pantry has been approved as a partner agency with the SA Food Bank.

September 2018 - Northeast Lakeview College Opens Veterans Center

NLC expanded veteran services to include the opening of a Veterans Center that provides a space where Veterans attending Northeast Lakeview College can come together for coffee and camaraderie and exchange experiences. The lounge also provides opportunities for military-connected students to interact with subject matter experts on veteran benefits, academic institutes, and off-campus resources. 

May 2018 - NLC Approved to Accept Veterans Benefits

Northeast Lakeview College received official approval from the Department of Veterans Affairs to accept Veteran Benefits from students attending NLC. The college received its Facility Code on May 14 after a site visit in February. Receiving the Facility Code allows Northeast Lakeview College to now certify students to use their Chapter 30 Montgomery GI Bill ®, Chapter 33 Post 9-11 GI Bill ®, Chapter 35 Survivor benefits, and Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation benefits. Additionally, NLC can now sign the Department of Defense MOU to receive active duty assistance.

December 2017 – January 2018 Northeast Lakeview College has been Approved for Accreditation

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), the college’s accrediting agency, announced during their December 2017 meeting that Northeast Lakeview College was approved for accreditation. The college received its official notification letter in January 2018

November 2017 - Northeast Lakeview College Successfully Completes its 10th Anniversary Celebrations

Northeast Lakeview College closed out its 10th-anniversary celebrations with its “Stars of Texas” Gala on November 9. The evening’s top sponsor at the Capitol level was Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union. The event also included testimonials from students receiving a college scholarship. All the proceeds from the event do directly support student scholarships. Fundraising totals estimate that about $17,000 was raised for student scholarships from 10th Anniversary fundraising activities.

August 2017 - NLC to be Host Site for Texas A&M Engineering Academy

Members from both Texas A&M College Station and Northeast Lakeview College held a kick-off meeting on August 17 to begin preparing to welcome the first cohort of students into this program in Fall 2018. Students in the program will be crossed enrolled at both Texas A&M and NLC. They will take courses through the Alamo Colleges District and enroll in one engineering course each semester through Texas A&M, but taught at NLC. Students successfully completing the first few engineering courses in this program will be eligible to enroll and complete an engineering program at Texas A&M University. The program has already been successful at several other community colleges, including Blinn, Houston Community College, and El Centro.

August 2017 - Northeast Lakeview College Begins Offering Federal Financial Aid to all Students

Effective for the 2017-2018 academic year, students can now designate Northeast Lakeview College as their primary institution and be eligible for federal financial aid. Prior to this, students requiring federal financial aid would have to designate San Antonio College (SAC) as their primary institution to receive their student aid and take classes at NLC. As the newest of the five colleges within the Alamo Colleges District, Northeast Lakeview College received candidacy status from its accrediting body the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) in June of 2016 and was eligible to begin the process to offer federal financial aid. The ability to offer federal financial aid is a huge milestone for NLC and its students. It will streamline the application, registration, and enrollment process for our students and offer more financial aid options for all students attending Northeast Lakeview College. 

November 2022 – NLC Breaks Ground on New $7.7M Veterans Center Building

Northeast Lakeview College (NLC) celebrated the beginning of construction on its newest building, an 11,000 sq. foot Veterans Center, with a Groundbreaking Ceremony on November 10. The new stand-alone Veterans Center will expand services and support to Veteran students and military-affiliated students and their families.
