Credit for Prior Learning Pathways
Learn how Credit for Prior Learning evaluates a student’s prior learning experiences.
College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) A CLEP exam allows students to demonstrate mastery of college-level knowledge in a particular subject. |
Advanced Placement (AP) While attending high school, students can pursue college-level studies with the opportunity to earn college credit by taking AP exams. |
International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBD) IB exams are administered for students at specific high schools that follow the IB curriculum. |
Credit not awarded during initial review In some cases, one or more courses that may be eligible for transcription are not automatically awarded and must be reviewed and approved by the appropriate Chair or discipline faculty. |
Internal examination for credit In specific approved courses students may request to take an Internal Exam to receive credit for a course. |
Credit for certification and training In specific approved courses students may request to receive credit for a course based on previous documented training including apprentice programs and by holding an industry-recognized certification. |
Credit for military experience/training (JST, DANTES) Alamo Colleges District awards credit for many types of military training and occupations. |
American Council for Education (ACE) Alamo Colleges District accepts credit recommendations for any military training or occupation that has been evaluated through the American Council on Education (ACE). |
Continuing education course conversion (Mirror Courses) Learners wishing to transition from continuing education to the academic credit continuation of their education may request a conversion of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to college credit for specific career and technical courses. |
Credit by Subject Matter Review The assessment of prior learning may be requested by individuals seeking to obtain college-level credit for experience and/or training received in a relevant work environment. |
